According to http://investors.kinepolis.com//index.cfm?PageID=15859, the first megaplex opened in 1988 in Brussels. That page is biased of course, so there is a chance that their to be the first is not correct; however, there is no reason to doubt that Kinepolis Brussels opened in 1988, which beats The Grand 24 in Dallas by 7 years.

Damn. You're right. I just ran this through LexisNexis and both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter have run numerous stories in which they mentioned that Kinepolis built the first megaplex in the world in 1988. AMC Grand 24 was the first one in the United States.

Join? or not to Join?

[edit]

I would say yes they should join ... there is very little under Multiplex and a Multiplex is just a small Megaplex.

They tend to share the same features, it is just one has less than the other - from my perception, however, I could stand corrected. notna uk 16:41, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And am I the only one who thinks it odd that both articles use the same photo (of a 30-screen location), even though the multiplex article suggests that multiplexes are defined (in part) by not having as many screens as a megaplex? I'd suggest merging under multiplex (the more commonly used term). MisfitToys 20:48, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also agree, the Megaplex is just an euphemism for a multiplex, and since it is just a big multiplex it should be merged under Multiplex (movie theater). The word multiplex is the one that gives the definition.Zisimos 13:09, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
