I think indie is more of a music genre now or sound. It would be cool if some posted a list of underground bands by region.
This article should be merged with Indie music, or vice versa. They are both mean basically the same thing. Although I can't decide... what topic is a subset of what? Is "Indie" a category of "Underground Music" or vice versa?

Indie vs. Underground
[edit]I don't think they're the same thing. Almost anything on an indie label (not owned by the big four) could be called indie if it's not solidly in one of the usual genres. In particular a band could be indie if it is selling recordings and never or rarely performs. An underground band primarily is a performing band, in minor venues, with a minimal or zero penetration of the recorded music market. Just my opinion.

Indie music and underground aren't exactly the same. The Offspring and R.E.M. both hit the top 40 before signing to major labels (though both were snagged by majors one album after their breakthrough). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.214.133.158 (talk) 00:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm on the fence as to whether or not this article should exist. The term itself is almost too vague and imprecise to really base an encyclopedia article around it. If something doesn't have a large mainstream following (i.e., a broad demographic base and reach beyond a local art/music scene) or a significant presence in mainstream media (national magazines and newspapers, major broadcast television outlets, popular websites, radio, major labels, etc.) then maybe it's "underground," but in most cases you could apply other terms as well. I think anything you might put in this article would be covered equally well in other articles. A broader article on "underground culture" or just the word "underground" as it refers to culture might make more sense.

Just delete that it doesn't make any sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.25.167.195 (talk) 22:13, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
