There is a photo of the Industrial District when it was still tide flats showing the Seattle Box Co and both 4th Avenue South and South Spokane Street on pilings above the ground. I've seen it in the Seattle Times. I believe the original is in the University of Washington Archives. It's old enough that it's in the public domain but I have no idea how to find it.

the city clerk's map shows this neighborhood includes a chunk of West Seattle (i.e., west of the Duwamish, over to Marine Drive and West Marginal. Is this worth correcting? See http://clerk.ci.seattle.wa.us/~public/nmaps/images/NN-1440L.Jpg Lupinelawyer 05:13, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I don't think so. The City Clerk's map is only for official use and in many cases doesn't represent what is considered "ground truth." Take a look at Ballard, for example. Nobody has ever heard of the sub-neighborhood "Adams," but they need subdivisions for indexing purposes. As far as most people are concerned, I think West Seattle begins at the Duwamish, where the Industrial District ends. --Lukobe 20:57, Feb 9, 2005 (UTC)

SODO is south of the DOME, not downtown.

Industrial District West

[edit]

The City of Seattle refers to the neighborhood west of the Duwamish River and east of Admiral Point as being part of the "Industrial District", which was numbered "District 18" at one point. In some places (like in the citation below) it's referred to as "Industrial District West":

"West Seattle Bridge Replacement Study". Seattle Department of Transportation. Seattle. June 23, 2022.{{cite web}}: CS1 maint: date and year (link)

The Delridge, Seattle article is very careful not to claim anything north of SW Spokane Street as being part of Delridge. The North Admiral, Seattle article is careful not to claim anything east of Harbor Avenue SW (including the shore). Should we go with Seattle's "industrial District West" nominclature, or is there a better way to refer to the neighborhood? Seems to me the neighborhood east of North Admiral, north of Delridge (which includes Youngstown and Pigeon Point) and west of Harbor Island should have a name, shouldn't it? It would seem that the portion of West Seattle along the mouth of the Duwamish Waterway is left unnamed by Wikipedia, and it really shouldn't be. -- RobLa (talk) 07:32, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
