needs
[edit]This article needs:
- Precise dates for birth and death,
- More research to find out whether he was elected to the Reichstag in 1881, and
- A discussion of his philosophy.

- Yes, especially it needs the philosophy — if Dietzgen influenced Lenin, he presumably influenced world history, but what did he contribute? And if it's significant that Lenin ignored Dietzgen's last book while extensively quoting others, what's in it that might have contradicted, or altered, Lenin's ideas?
- If rewritten, this article could be an important contribution. I recall coming across a mention of Dietzgen in a footnote decades ago, but all it said was, in effect, "Isn't it marvelous that an ignorant proletarian could have concocted a primitive version of these ideas all his own." I remember thinking at the time I'd like to see that version, and I came to this page hoping to finally learn more about his thoughts.
- There are also style problems to fix, such as the redundant "early on in his youth".Chelydra (talk) 09:32, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Agree with the above. Also the part about 'family line' seems a bit superfluous and/or sounds almost like we are dealing with some kind of eugenics. This is about Joseph Dietzgen. Ninjabeard (talk) 09:16, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Independent development of dialectical materialism
