- The voices in my head say "delete". -- Cyrius|✎ 03:36, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete unless verified. If someone can verify via third party that this debate club is hosting some of the largest debates in the Asian world, I would vote to keep. I spent most of the last hour trying to verify this but couldn't. A web search turns up lots of hits, most claiming to be the website for Voices. They are different sites, by different hosts, however. Are all of these "the" Voices website? The MMU site doesn't mention Voices. Searching that site gets zero hits for Voices, debating club, debate, etc. The MMU Bulletin Board has zero bulletins that mention Voices or a debate club in the bulletin title. One bulletin shows that Clubs and Societies Registration Week is coming up. Guess which club is conspicuously absent from the list. If the article text is legit, then... yes, it is vanity, but notable vanity. If this is a hoax, it is very elaborate and confusing -- why do it? I would like to say keep, but I can't until it can be verified. SWAdair | Talk 08:19, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- University's club listing http://www.mmu.edu.my/menu_index.php?link=http://club.mmu.edu.my/ On VoicesMMU hosting Worlds 2005 http://bulletin.mmu.edu.my/v3/view/bulletin_main_search.mmu?s=17504 On Worlds website http://www.mmuworlds2005.com Official Voices website http://www.voicesmmu.org/ Newspaper Articles http://www.nuttynet.com/mw05/featured.htm http://www.nuttynet.com/mw05/featured2.htm .... These links were provided by 203.115.208.204, who accidentally overwrote the VfD discussion with the links. I've restored the discussion and included the new information. - If you do a google search for "Voices MMU" you will find within the top 5 links, links to the Award for Best Club in MMU, a newspaper article about the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships we organised in 2003 and homepage for the World Championships that we are organising in 2005. A google search for "world universities debate championships 2005" will take you directly to a website hosted on www.debating.net that confirms VoicesMMU is hosting the World Championships in 2005. - Comment: If you make a concerted effort to NPOV the article and put it into Wikipedia Style (articles should not contain FAQS, provide the information in article format0, then people might vote to keep. It needs a lot of work. Also think title needs to be changed, it is a surefire future ambiguity. Voices (debating society) I guess would be better. --bodnotbod 16:32, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- I agree with this point. I'll attempt to ensure that it's written in a more formal manner tonight.
- I vote for deletion. We cannot risk allowing every club from everywhere to be included in Wikipedia. If we allow this Voices page to continue, it sets an ugly path for Wikipedia. Furthermore, searches done through Google lead to blogs and the club's own website. This certainly means this club is not worth mentioning in Wikipedia. __earth 22:08, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- I'm with Earth -- bad precedent. Delete. RadicalSubversiv E 04:00, 7 May 2004 (UTC)
- Delete: vanity. Agreed w/ Earth. Wile E. Heresiarch 06:08, 8 May 2004 (UTC)
- Changing my vote to a solid delete. The more I think about it, I could see articles about the international competitions themselves, but not this. Some of the recent additions to the page are strongly turning it into a vanity page / secondary website, but not an encyclopedia article. Delete. SWAdair | Talk 06:24, 8 May 2004 (UTC)
