Poor customer service

To the person who continually post anti-stena line sentiments on this site- we all know you had a bad experience with Stena Line and do not like the company in any manner, but don't you think that maybe its time to get over it?

To the person who continually lambasts Stena Line on this and many other review sites, might I suggest you get over it? This is obviously something that happened many months, if not years ago, yet you still continue your tireless whine about the company, even though the majority of people using Stena Line think they are a fantastice company. Perhaps its time you found something else to fill up your time? May I suggest knitting a red jumper, with a big white 'S' on it, to resemble a Stena Line funnel?

You should never get over poor customer service. Accepting poor customer service and not telling people about it is not doing anyone any favours and will not bring about change in the way passengers are treated. I would have stopped if it hadn't been for the fact that Stena Line keeps coming up in the media and rarely favourably so. I wouldn't have started if I was treated right in the first place. I can understand this seems unfair if you are associated with Stena Line. But there you are. It seems like the person who keeps whining about Stena Line has nothing better to do. May I suggest that there is worse things in this world to worry about than a ferry company?

Using the Irish website is going to give you the price in Euros naturally. Using the UK website is going to give you the price in Pounds Sterling and of course, there are exchange rates between the two.

I SO wish I had read this before booking. What started as a way to save a few pounds over flying to Belgium has blown that out of the water because of a confusing website that gave me sailing dates based on my arrival and not my departure. I spotted this as soon as I got the mandate through and called up. Got a very helpful guy but it was a Sunday so he noted the change on the file and asked me to call Customer Service (sic) during the week to confirm. When i did, i got a barely literate woman who banged on about if I want to change my booking I need to pay and extra £90, and she just couldn't understand the difference between correcting for a website error and wanting to alter travel plans. She tried to muffle the phone with her hand while she read the note on file to her supervisor, but she was clearly audible to me working out how they could hit me for the £90 because they could. Crass cash-grabbing that leaves a bitter customer experience.

Awful company

Stena Line is a horrible company with a clear policy that passengers are second rate to cargo. I was left behind in Harwich for no other reason than that was how they did things around there, even though I arrived well before the scheduled sail time. The ship was still in port, loading cargo, but since I was a passenger they wouldn't lift a finger to help me. This had a knock-on effect that ruined the weekend. Some research proved that they had done this on a number of occasions and I believe that this should be included in the article. Here are some Norwegian newsclippings that prove the point. Here is another one, stating once again that Stena Line is a company best avoided. In an attempt to meet competition they refurbished an old rustbucket, only to have the maritime authorities impose sailing restrictions. Maiden voyage cancelled

Heres yet another one! After the Stena Nautica collision the Swedish maritime investigators found that Stena Line were sailing around with the watertight doors open, the crew did not know how to close them and ship was in danger of sinking. Think Titantic and Herald of free Enterprise. Stena Line, being who they are, just shrugs over these comments. Poor safety with vessel accident Stena Line rejects criticism

The article below claiming Stena Line is an "Awful Company" is plain rubbish in my opinion. I have travelled extensively with the company over many years and have found their customer service to be in a league of its own, and feel that the company has the best passenger vessels in UK waters (e.g. the fantastic Stena HSS). Additionally, I have no concerns at all regarding safety on the company's ferries, I have always found safety to be a key priority on the company's vessels. And additionally, the citation of several media/ tabloid articles to back up the author's views does not mean that what is written in these articles is true or factually correct.

I would recommend any one who is doubting the quality of Stena Line's vessels and services to travel with them and decide for yourselves- I don't think you will be disappointed- there is a reason the company is winning so many awards right now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.107.205 (talk • contribs)

Yes, it is an awful company with a suspect safety record. The article below, amongst others refer to the Swedish Accident Investigation Board. From the Swedish collision report: "The reason that Stena Nautica became flooded and nearly sank was because the shipping company lacked a sufficiently thought-out and implemented safety policy". But in case that is not enough, on Konigen Beatrix the neglient captain cocked up the rescue efforts of Michael Davis, see DAVIS v STENA LINE LIMITED [2005] EWHC 420 or if it proves to much to read. I don't suppose you would claim that Justice Forbes is not factually correct? Stena Line is using their Swedish registered ships to circumvent Norwegian antigambling laws. According to the Aftenposten, they even use this in their promotional material. Maybe it's legal, but is it ethical considering the Norwegian laws aim to prevent Problem gambling? Story: Gamblers loophole

Stena Line has also been in the news after the disappearance of several of their passengers. In every case there has been an issue with the surveillance footage, there isn't any. In every case Stena Line fights back claiming they don't have cameras on open decks because they aren't required by law. Any in every case the police and the relatives state that it would help them understand what had happened. Largest in the World?

I don't know...but I think Stena Line is the largest ferry operation in the world, being followed by BC Ferries. BC Ferries has 35 ships, 47 terminals and 25 routes on the west coast of Canada, which comes to 4,700 employees in all. I can't see how Stena Line has over 5,000 seeing as how they don't operate the terminals (or do they?). BC Ferries operates all 47 of their terminals, and let me tell you, the biggest one (Tsawwassen Terminal) can almost be compared to Calais or Dover. On the major route out of that terminal, between Vancouver and Victoria, they carry more passengers and vehicles than on Dover-Calais. In addition to that route, they also operate one other route to Vancouver Island in Nanaimo and one to the Southern Gulf Islands which are off the coast of Vancouver Island. Also in addition is the Horseshoe Bay terminal (also serving Nanaimo and two other routes), which has room for up to 2,000 American size average cars (many of you may have heard about Horseshoe Bay when the Queen of Oak Bay crashed into the marina last summer). Horseshoe Bay must be the most state-of-the-art ferry terminal in the world, being nestled between steep mountains and ocean, and the entire terminal is built on a grade due to the "Upper Levels Highway", which is further up the mountain-side.

Yep, Stena Line does operate in the terminals. I'm sure they have 5000+ employees.

Old discusion but they dont operate in all te terminals, Dublin for one is run by a company that does all the ferries there. They do run Dun Laoghaire however. John.n-irl 08:46, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

http://www.stenaline.co.uk is the official address (with .com for the corporate gateway) - anything else is linkspam (do a google search for "stena line") - we have had an anon (198.54.202.146) from south africa who has been spamming with the extra 's' for a good month or so - and he has had multiple blocks for spamming. On the link with the 's': http://www.stenalines.co.uk/ I see all options for travel with Stenaline. I do not see undesirable commercial information (i.e. spam). Maybe it is an optional site from Stenaline? Or am I missing something? --JohJak2 17:49, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

The issue isn't about what options it gives - the spammer who kept adding it was just changing the link so that the "official site" link pointed to there, when in fact that website is nothing whatsoever to do with stena themselves. WP can't just list 101 websites that have anything to do with the article, especially on articles that are about subjects where selling products and services are involved. The official site is all that is needed - goods and services reseller website links are the very definition of linkspam. SFC9394 18:20, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Killingholme?

If you are referring to the map: the line connect Killingholme and the unfortunately not named harbour of Hoek van Holland, a few km west of Rotterdam, and is listed as such in the overview. Classical geographer 22:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Similarly there is an unnamed city (Dún Laoghaire, presumably) next to Belfast on the Western Europe map, and a horde of unnamed cities in the Northern Europe map. I'd presume the creator of the maps included only the names of the more "important" cities in order to keep the maps uncluttered. -- Kjet 22:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
