[edit]The BBC link has broken, and should be http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/space/skyatnight/index.shtml, but I don't understand the current clever reference technique, so have not changed it Vicarage (talk) 07:13, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Note for future use :
"The Sky At Night has kept going since 1957 because it is cheap, the cheapest thing on the air, because it goes on late, because it doesn't get in anyone's way and it is not controversial" - BBC 1 programme scheduler, George Dixon, quoted in the Daily Telegreaph, 09/01/2007 -- 160.5.247.8 17:12, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Patrick Moore: when retiring?
[edit]The great question facing the programme is, as he approaches 90, when Sir Patrick retires, who will take over? Brian May could do it as main presenter with Chris Lintott as deputy. Other strong contenders are Brian Cox, Carol Vorderman, Kate Humble, Kathy Sykes and Dan Snow. Who would you suggest as a likely replacement. Remember, they need the personality to carry the show which would also need to locate to a new centre such as the RO, Greenwich or Leicester Space Centre. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.166.65.102 (talk) 13:05, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_not_a_forum - however, it is liable this will turn into a more publicly debated topic in the near future, given Sir Patrick's recent death, at which point it may be appropriate for us to have a section on contenders for the role. ReidE96 (talk) 14:09, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
- An interesting question following the sad death of Patrick today. However, what a load of no hopers, apart from May, Linott and possibly Cox, you list as candidates (so knowing the BBC they will no doubt appoint one of them). The sum total of all their knowledge of astronomy could probably be written on a postage stamp. I would favour May. He's the only one listed above with the gravitas to carry it off. Giving it to the likes of Vorderman would be an insult. 86.25.28.114 (talk) 18:03, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
- I agree most of those presenters are useless compared to Patrick. However, I suspect the BBC will attempt to make the The Sky at Night trendy, or dumb it down, so nothing would surprise me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.172.230.90 (talk) 08:03, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

- I think everyone is useless compared to Patrick. That said, it might be nice if the article reflected the fact there's another program to come [1] with Patrick presenting. I can't make the edit as I have a clear conflict of interest (as shown by the discussion above!). Chrislintott (talk) 13:28, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- I have added the link you provided and removed the premature past-tense added without any press release that the show has been cancelled MickStep (talk) 00:50, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- FYI tomorrows episode credits Chris Lintott as the presenter. [2] 81.149.101.15 (talk) 14:45, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
