This article needs several diagrams after MacArthur and Wilson and more citations
[edit]The species equilibrium diagram needs to be in the article. They are a basic part of the theory and would add immensely to the clarity. Article also needs an adequate discussion of the development of the conservation biology uses and consequences.
Descriptions of Diamonds bird studies and Simberloffs insects studies would be useful. There must be someone out there with an adequate summary section from a thesis that intro that could be condensed into here.
Need to remove the grey literature references and replace with source studies...74.78.122.238 (talk) 16:56, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
it is not just one theory, but at least two, one the 'equilibrium number of species for a single island' and 'models for several islands of varying distance from the source of colonisation and of varying size', wilson took this idea(s) from preston '62 whom analysed the relationship between sampling area and the number of plant and animal species.

- Added figure based on MacArthur and Wilson (and, indirectly, Darlington). More needed, obviously. MarkM (talk) 09:57, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
It needs the island biogeography equation, S = c(A^z), with a discussion of the typical values of c and z. Philgoetz (talk) 17:37, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
