Welcome!
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page
- Editing, policy, conduct, and structure tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
- If you're ready for the complete list of Wikipedia documentation, there's also Wikipedia:Topical index.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! - Your welcome. I haven't looked at many of your edits (they are mostly minor correctsion, which are amazing!) but they look great. If other users don't like what you are doing, don't worry, they will let you know. Hyacinth 04:28, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
VfD
[edit]Hello, Sholtar. I noticed that you placed a {{vfd}} tag on Christianforums.com, but that you hadn't placed a link on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion. I hope I didn't interrupt anything that you may have been doing with it, but I took the liberty of creating the page for you. :) – ClockworkSoul 03:37, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
New User Welcome...
[edit]Actually, I did what you suggested before I read your suggestion :)... You can see it now at User:Ilyanep/Welcome Message — Ilγαηερ (Tαlκ) 04:06, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Has someone logged on as you
[edit]Someone replaced the United State page "US Senate" with "US Sexmaniacs" - reportedly this was you. However it looks like this isn't your normal behavior. Is it possible your account has been compromised? - Reboot
William Dummer
[edit]Hi Sholtar, good to see you making some new articles. For future reference, though, biographies shouldn't be listed as history stubs (hist-stub is for historical events, bio-stub and its subcategories are for people). In the case of William Dummer I've changed the stub message to {{US-politician-stub}}. Grutness|hello? 06:42, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
The calculus sidebar
[edit]Hi. I wonder if you could take a look at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics and tell us your opinion about the calculus sidebar. So far, some of us think it has been growing too big. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov 15:43, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for bringing that to my attention, I wasn't aware there was discussion about it. I've added what I think should be done to the talk page, so you can go check it out and see if that sounds good. Sholtar 21:28, May 3, 2005 (UTC)
- I wrote more on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics. Oleg Alexandrov 22:24, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
- By the way, I changed your user page a bit, to make it conform to the manual of style. Oleg Alexandrov 22:24, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
I would give Ryan Cabrera's article more attention, and I have observed and complained about the vandalism before, but there isn't much I can do because I have a relevant ArbCom ruling banning me from editing it. I can revert the simplest kind of vandalism, but that's it. If you want to keep an eye on it, that'd be great. Everyking 00:56, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
- Long story, but basically I got in some revert wars over how much detail some articles related to Ashlee Simpson should have (I thought the level of detail was reasonable, others thought it was excessive and were deleting lots of it), and I got slapped because I was on the minority side in the dispute. Sad but true. Everyking 01:45, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Years Survey
[edit]Hi. To get everybody thinking, I've created a survey about Year pages here. I'm telling all the participants of WikiProject Years and everyone else who has shown an interest or participated in the discussion. If you could check it out it would be appreciated, and tell anyone you think may be interested.Trevor macinnis 03:17, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
User categorization
[edit]Greetings, Sholtar! Please accept this message as an invitation to categorize your user page in the category Category:Wikipedians in Washington and removing your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Washington page. The page will be deleted when all users have been removed. Even if you do not wish to be placed in a category, could you take a moment to remove your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Washington page? Thanks!!
To add your name to the category, please use the tag [[Category:Wikipedians in Washington|Sholtar]] to ensure proper sorting.
For more information, please see Wikipedia:User categorisation and Category:Wikipedians by location. -- Roby Wayne Talk • Hist 06:56, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
Sholtar,
I'm not exactly sure, but you left me a message for my IP(?) saying not to do vandalism in May of 2005, however, we just got internet in the past month. Please explain.
Hi Sholtar,
My name is Bill Adams and I am a news assistant in Beijing researching an article on Sidney Rittenberg for the Christian Science Monitor, whose Wikipedia article you have edited. Would you be willing to be interviewed on Rittenberg? Our article is an in-depth profile of the man, his experiences in and perspective on China, and his place in Chinese history.
Thank you, Bill Adams Mobile: +86-131-6198-9111 billjadams AT gmail DOT com
Year page formatting of multiple events
[edit]Hello, I'm sending you this message since you were involved in the August 2005 survey on year pages. As I don't know if you've gathered, somebody has been fighting for a change to the house style on how to notate multiple events on the same date. A discussion is currently in progress - your contribution (including whether you still favour the style you voted for or have changed your mind) would be appreciated! -- Smjg (talk) 15:31, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair use image problems
[edit]I notice you have uploaded the image Image:Rittenbergmao.jpg with the {{Non-free book cover}} fair use image tag. However, this tag seems unrelated to the content of the image, and as a result it may qualify for speedy deletion. Image:Rittenbergmao.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.
If you can find a valid tag that expresses why Image:Rittenbergmao.jpg can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the {{Non-free book cover}} tag that you have placed on it with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it. However, you must not remove the speedy deletion notice. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia.
Image is a book cover, but article in which image is used is not about the book. Also no fair-use rationale.}} Hippo (talk) 02:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group
[edit]Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.
I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!
Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 01:10, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
