Wikipedia:Mandrake DVD

The French company, Mandrake, has requested our permission to release Wikipedia on DVD as part of their free software package, which includes Linux and other software. Optimally, a release date is set for Christmas 2004.
While this is a wonderful opportunity for Wikipedia, it will require quite a bit of work. Over the course of discussions, it was realized that we must make a concerted effort to remove materials that could be deemed copyright violations.
This is especially true of images, which have been downloaded to Wikipedia under various different copyright releases, including "public domain," "fair use," etc. To ensure that no copyright violations are given to Mandrake, we intend to begin the process by tagging each image appearing in Wikipedia by the license under which it was released. Emails will be sent shortly to all contributors of images, asking them to tag their images properly, and these will be checked. All images that are left untagged will be placed in "quarantine," unless their release can be verified as meeting the standards of the DVD version.
