OptOut was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to delete the article.
Horrible, horrible spam, and it's even written in the first person. I can't see that this "OptOut" is in any way notable. It's not even a domain name, just some page. Obvious delete, as far as I can see. - Vague Rant 02:47, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete, It's a direct copy and paste from Steve Gibson's OptOut page. Aves 02:56, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

- Actually, OptOut, and other products from Gibson Research (grc.com) have been forerunners in the fight for desktop security, spyware removal, open port blocking, and things like that. GRC deserves an article -- but this ain't it; this is just a cut and paste from the website. Delete unless someone gets around to marking it as a copyvio from http://grc.com/optout.htm (I gotta run or I'd do it myself.) --jpgordon{gab} 03:00, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure nobody thinks GRC unworthy of an article. Wyllium 03:02, 2004 Nov 10 (UTC)
- Delete as is, but there must be somewhere for this to redirect to. I seem to recall a controversy at least in the U.S. over whether some sort of privacy regulation should be "opt-in" or "opt-out", and we must have an article on controversies of that sort. Or something ;) [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 03:01, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)
- If its a copyvio we gotta delete, but shouldn't there be some description of this somewhere? —siroχo 05:03, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete: The topic of opt-out and opt-in can be covered in spyware and spam (e-mail). The tacit approval versus explicit approval is a devil of a concept. Also, an article on GRC would be fine, but this is an ad and spam. Geogre 05:10, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Articles about opt-in, opt-out and Gibson Research can be written afterwards, no need to keep the current crap in history. jni 07:07, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete or redir to criticisms of marketing or direct marketing, or possibly Can Spam Act of 2003--it's US-centric, but has "opt out" very near the top (although it's not necessarily only an email related issue--'do not call' lists, for example, could be considered an 'opt out' mechanism).
