Main pages are completely static.

Substs instead of msgs. Perhaps a template page full of substs that one edits instead of the actual page; takes an extra edit per MP update, but there are under 4/day. None of this "six msgs for obscurity-security purposes" business.
Main Page - Elaborate, special, comparatively large -- quite static. No dynamic current # of pages. Update by hand once a day; link to a stats page with the dynamic count.
Special:Recentchanges - Updated on the minute. Useful as a functional main-page for users who get to new arts, meta- and WP- pages, & announcements etc that way. Separate page (and #enrc) for constantly-reupped RC.
checks for new messages should occur once a minute.

Neighborhood watch, photogs, reporting, audio recording.
Subspace for verifiable mundanities.
Subspace for databases, large dataesets...
